Can the "right to die" become a civic duty?
Keywords:
“the right to death”, human dignity, the public good, the state, the right to personal self-determinationAbstract
The article deals with the development of the “right to die”, which is recognized by the Western scientific community. This right is connected to the highest constitutional value — the human dignity. Thus, the integration of the “right to die” into the sphere of state and law may cause a collision with the common good — the category which defines all actions of the state. Therefore, the probability that the “right to die” “evolves” to a civil duty causing the human dignity to be sacrificed for the interests of the common good needs a thorough examination.
