Abstract

The article examines the views of two Christian thinkers of the 20th c. — Archbishop John (Shakhovskoy) and Jacques Maritain — on the importance of natural law for building a Christian society. The natural law given to man by God at creation, among other things, is of fundamental significance precisely in the life of a particular person and his place in society. It is the realization that the Root Cause of natural law is God, as well as the awareness by each person of the importance of a personal dialogue with Him, that ultimately provides a reliable foundation for building a Christian society.
