The problem of the spiritual development of mankind in the modern era is of particular importance. Man is essentially a spiritual being, and his future depends on how he understands spirituality, what spiritual ideals, values, norms and rules he sets for himself. Technogenic man appears as a result of the destruction of traditional cultural and axiological constants, which occurs in the process of modernization, which is currently acquiring a global character. As an anthropophenomenon, it is a product of a specific spiritual situation. The type of society he constructs is distinguished by its desire to technologize all spheres of his life. Under these conditions, the natural human desire for improvement and development is also technologized and acquires very peculiar forms. Efforts are focused on transformation, “improvement” of a person (human enhancement), which involves, first of all, the technical acquisition of new extraordinary psychophysical capabilities. In this regard, an objective understanding of human spiritual development as the correction of moral imperfections and shortcomings makes it possible to clarify the understanding of what the real “improvement” of a person is. In this case, points of cooperation between the secular sciences and the science of theology can be identified.
