Abstract

This article presents a linguistic analysis of the names of types of Christian churches (basilica, ikos, catacombs, kafolicon, crypt, kuvuklia, skinia, tetraconch, triconch), as well as some directly related terms that came into the Russian language from Greek (apse, baptistery, cross, exedra). The ways of borrowing each term are traced, taking into account their phonetic design, word-formation principles, the development of semantics in the direction of narrowing the original, more general meaning of the word.
