Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of ideas about the human sufferings of the Saint Hesychius of Jerusalem, an outstanding Greek-speaking preacher of the second half of the IVth — first half of the Vth centuries, who left the Homilies on the Book of Job. Unfortunately, only 24 sermons from the voluminous work of the Saint Father have survived to this day, but the surviving texts conclusively stress his theological intuition in understanding the burning issues concerning the phenomenon of human sufferings. The fragments of the Homilies that are given in this article in the translation of its author indicate the beauty of the style used by the Saint Hesychius in the interpretation of one of the most mysterious books of the Holy Scripture.
