Abstract

This article is the fi rst in a series of publications which are devoted to the teaching and practice of baptism in neo- Protestant sects and to the attitude of the Orthodox Church to it. It examines the administration of baptism in denominations both professing faith in the Holy Trinity — in the doctrine of the Baptists, Seventh day Adventism, Pentecostalism, neo- Pentecostalism, the International Church of Christ, the International Christian Church, and adhering to the antitrinitarian views — Oneness- Pentecostals (evangelical Christians in the spirit of the apostles) and Jehovah’s Witnesses. The main focus is on the use of the baptismal formula and the method of its administration by these heresies, as well as on an attempt to justify a single immersion during the administration of the baptism and confute the Orthodox doctrine of threefold immersion during the administration of this Sacrament.
