Abstract

The article features the thoughts of Archbishop Nikon (Rozhdestvensky) on the problems of spiritual upbringing and education in the Russian Empire close to the end of the XIX and in the early years of the XX century and the solutions he off ered to them. Attention has been paid to the reasons behind those problems, hidden in the deep crisis that spiritual educational institutes were suff ering at those times, which, in turn, was rooted both in the imperfections of the system of spiritual education and the overall spiritual and moral decay of Russian society.
