The Role of Imagination in Modern Western Occultism

The article reviews the role of imagination in different periods of life and work of H. Blavatsky, R. Steiner, S. Torop (Vissarion) and I. Bereslavsky, since their personal process of becoming preoccupied with occultism or building their own occult or sectarian doctrines. Particular attention is given to the influence and importance of imagination in their doctrines and practices, as well as different versions of Blavatsky’s interpretation of clairvoyance, which are analyzed in the context of Orthodox ascetic tradition.
