Abstract

The reader is herewith presented with the XXVII book of the major exegetical treatise «Moralia on the Book of Job» (or rather «Commentary on the Book of Job, or Moral Interpretations» — «Expositio in librum Iob sive Moralia») by St. Gregory Dialogos, Pope of Rome (540–604), written in 35 books based on the homilies of St. Gregory during his service as apocrisiary of the Roman Bishop in Constantinople. Now the whole book has been completely translated into Russian for the first time. This book interprets the lines of Job 36, 22–37, 24, which outline the dialogue between the righteous Job and his friend Elihu. The meanings that St. Gregory brings up giving his comments on the both persons’ speeches, contain a wide range of Christian concepts: the fall of the human race, the need for the Coming of the Redeemer, the Incarnation and the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ, the life of the Church and the righteous, the wicked and those who repent of their sins, sin, grace, God’s punishments, stages of spiritual life and Christian virtues, etc.
