Saint Gregory the Great. Moralia in the Book of Job. Book XXVII (Part I)

Abstract

The reader is herewith presented with XXVII book of the major exegetical treatise «Moralia on the Book of Job» (or rather «Interpretation on the Book of Job, or Moral Interpretations» — «Expositio in librum Iob sive Moralia») by St. Gregory Dialogos, Pope of Rome (540–604), written in 35 books based on the conversations of St Gregory during his service as apocrisiary of the Roman Bishop in Constantinople. Now this XXVII book translated completely into Russian for the first time. This book interprets the lines of Job 36, 22–37, 24, which outline the dialogue between the righteous Job and his friend Elihu. The meanings that St Gregory touches on the interpretation of the speeches of both persons, which contain a very wide Christian thematic spectrum: the fall of the human race, the need for the Coming of the Redeemer, the Incarnation and the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ, the life of the Church and the righteous, the wicked and those who repent of their sins, sin, grace, punishment from God, stages of spiritual life and virtues of a Christian, etc.
