Abstract

Marcus Eugenicus, mitropolitan of Ephesus (1394–1444) — great theologian, who devoted his life to the defense of the Orthodox Church and the Greek nation. He is known as strictly against Unia of the Orthodox with the Roman Catholics on Synod in Ferrara and Florentia 1438–1439. «Monodia» (or lament-song) «for the fall of Thessalonica» tells about the terrible events of the capture of Thessalonica by the Turks in 1430 and is an important historical source.
