Saint Theophylact of Bulgaria (1055–1107), Archbishop of Ohrid is known primarily as an exegete of the Holy Scripture, as an author of numerous letters and as the Greek bishop of the Byzantine Bulgarian flock during the reign of Emperor Alexei Komnenos. His homiletical work «The Homily on the Entry into the Temple of the Most Holy Theotokos» places the traditional event that formed the basis of this Сhurch feast in the context of the Economy of the Salvation of the human race, accomplished by Our Lord Jesus Christ. Revealing the Divine designation and personal virtues of the Virgin Mary as the Mother of God, saint Theophylact, partly touching the anti-Jewish polemics, comes to morally edifying conclusions, addressed to his Church flock.
