Abstract

The article examines the views of Archbishop Nikon (Rozhdestvensky) on the relationship between Church and state authorities at the beginning of the XX century. Being a member of the Holy Synod and the State Council at the same time, i. e. an ecclesiastical and a state fi gure at the same time, Archbishop Nikon took care of the independence of the Church authority and its harmonious relationship with the state authority.
