Abstract

The article touches upon the topic of the practice of involuntary monastic tonsure in the tradition of the Russian State and the Russian Church of the 2nd half of the XVIIth century on the example of K. P. Naryshkin (monk Cyprian) (1623–1691) and three documents from 1684–1685 on this topic are given: the Letter of Patriarch Joachim to the Rostov Metropolitan Jonah, the Letter of the Rostov Metropolitan Jonah to Patriarch Joachim and the Letter of Patriarch Joachim to the Kholmogory Archbishop Athanasius.
